Whatever your Fate, Say “This is What I Need” [Thus Spoke Zarathustra by Friedrich Nietzche]

“Any disaster that you can survive is an improvement in your character, your stature, and your life” — Joseph Campbell

Campbell was sold on this idea of “loving your fate” after reading Friedrich Nietzche epic novel “Thus Spoke Zarathustra.  Nietsche’s advice was simple, “whatever your fate is, tell yourself ‘This is what I need”.

Such simple yet effective advice.  Don’t wish your obstacles away and don’t pray that life will come easy. Just pray for the strength to endure, accept, and love the things that you can’t change.  After all, God won’t give you an obstacle that you can’t handle.

So when you experience failure, pain, or hardship today you must change your perception. Tell yourself “good, this is what I need”.  Accept pain for what it is; an opportunity to grow.  Do that while always assuming good intentions when another has wronged you and you will be well equipped to take on any obstacles in your way!
